BIO

Watch for Whales are a theatrical rock band or cabaret pop-rock, or as someone in the audience once said, “You’ve never heard anything like this.”
They are storytellers who tell soft stories that sting. Their songs lie somewhere between Beethoven and Bjork, using twisty melodies and prologues that appeal directly to the patriarchy, bringing power to the people.

The band was formed in 2018 in the Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance, in a fantastic twist of fate, what started as a delicate but deliberate improvised session, became the band’s first song. The ensemble is led by pianist Lior Soltz, a graduate of the Multidisciplinary Composition Program at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, who was raised on jazz and classical music, and singer Amit Tsafrir, an alphabetical acrobat and storyteller who weaves words from worlds of Spoken Word and theatre. They were joined by Tamir Klein, Dor Ben Lulu and Avri Flesher on bass, guitar and drums.

The songs invite the listener to dive deep into a colourful world, laden with details and characters who meet and injure each other, dusting off detailed struggles, suggesting sudden start overs.

After dozens of shows all over Israel (when it was possible) and the end of participation in the “Synthesizer” program, the band launched their debut EP on 11/20/20.
